In It. On It. At It.

NNSLSC was formed in 2008 by a dedicated core of beach lifeguards to establish a focal point for volunteers in Norfolk to train and improve their lifesaving skills and enjoy the rewarding environment that is our coastline.

Yearly over 900 volunteer hours are logged by our members, with over 1000 visits to the Club house to use the facilities and over 250 hours delivering Junior Lifeguard beach and water safety to under 14s.

As a club we run SLSGB Lifegaurd Courses throughout the year, provide volunteer lifeguard cover with the RNLI at the Sea Palling Ocean swim, volunteer lifeguard cover for the Plus One youth group, the East Coast Classic Surf comp, schools enrichment lessons with Notre Dame Partnership and participate and promote environmental beach cleans in the local area.

As part of SLSGB we are well supported and attend national events as a team to compete in skills and disciplines used in surf lifesaving.

The course includes:

  • 5 full days of training (minimum of 40 hours prior to assessment) with an assessment on the 6th day

  • Annual membership to SLSGB
  • Annual membership to NNSLSC

  • Be able to swim 400m (16 lengths of 25m pool, in a forward- facing stroke in under 7.5 minutes continuously)
  • Be able to swim 200m in under 3.5 minutes
  • Be able to run 200m on sand in under 40 seconds

The SLSGB Beach Lifeguard Award is a national qualification for the beach lifeguard covering; fitness, practical lifeguarding skills and knowledge, rescue techniques, life support and first aid.

The SLSGB qualification is accredited by the RNLI and many UK council lifeguard services and recognised internationally. However, please note that completion of this course does not guarantee employment as a lifeguard.

We have a range of people taking lifeguard courses with us from the ages of 16 and up.
Not everyone who takes a course wants to be a lifeguard and there is no commitment to become one.  It is however a great way of improving fitness, first aid and waterwork skills.

We can guarantee you will take away a whole range of new skills and knowledge from the week.

Spaces on the course are limited and will be allocated on a first- come, first- serve basis.
